Energy motion on total internal reflection of an electromagnetic wave packet

Abstract

The time-delay process of a wave packet on total internal reflection is investigated. It is shown that during the time-delay interval the power flows exist in both media. The physical meaning of the power flow in the denser medium is established. Theoretical investigations of the Goos–Hänchen shift are discussed from this point of view.
